ITALY: Crowds wait from dawn to pay last respects to opera star Luciano Pavarotti

Hundreds of mourners arrive at Modena cathedral to file past the coffin of renowned opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, who died on Thursday of cancer. From the early hours of the morning on Friday (September 7) people began gathering at Modena's cathedral to pay their last respects to their beloved opera star Luciano Pavarotti. The stream of people coming and going from the cathedral began to increase as the morning progressed. Luciano Pavarotti died on Thursday (September 6) after a long fight with pancreatic cancer. His body will lie in state for the whole day on Friday with the funeral taking place at the cathedral on Saturday (September 8) afternoon. Dignitaries and stars from all over the world are expected to attend. eb/aw/jrc
