Israel Stands At Attention In Honor Of Those Who Were Murdered In The Shoah

An emotional day began throughout the country as Israel marks Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Day. A ceremony at Shoah memorial Yad V'Shem's 'Warsaw Ghetto Square' set the tone for a somber day. Shimon Peres and Ehud Olmert spoke to the audience. Peres said Israel had been late in its establishment, but that when given the chance, Jews worldwide rose to the occasion to support a Jewish State. Such a crisis as the Holocaust will never happen again. Olmert echoed Peres. A siren sounded for two minutes nationwide. Israelis everywhere stood at attention in memorary of those who were killed. More than 250,000 survivors of the Shoah are still living in Israel today. More than 500,000 arrived after the end of World War II. 5/1/2008
