Iran news 11/7/07

Hezbollah, one year after victory July 12, 2007 marks the first anniversary of the Israeli defeat in the 33-day war against the Lebanese people. The defeat came to the surprise of the allies of the regime and altered many equations at the internal, regional and even international level to the benefit of the anti-US parties. Now after one year the political map of the region has undergone a turnaround. Lebanon for its part during the last year has faced a batch of developments, mainly a string of plots by some internal groups, backed by Zionist regime and a few Arab states against the Lebanese Hezbollah all of them to no avail. The most conspicuous development came in the efforts of Fuad Siniora's government to hold on his exclusive government and expel Hezbollah and national groups from the political arena. Shii and Maroni ministers from the cabinet foiled the move through a walkout. During the past year, purposeful assassination bids were rife all aimed to mar the face of Hezbollah or inciting people against resistance. Repeated bombing in Christian districts and assassination of parliamentary figures and military commanders are among other plots against Hezbollah. The UN resolution 1701 was a Western-sponsored effort aimed to deal another blow to Hezbollah. The resolution crashed the door to UNIFEL forces whose conduct on some occasions was provocative in southern Lebanon. The recent rebellion of an extremist group, called Fath al-Islam in Nahr al-Bared camp in Tripoli was another loop of the chain of plots against the victor of the 33-day war. The futile move was aimed to pit the Lebanese army against Hezbollah and in the long run pit Lebanese people against the Palestinians. The plot was foiled after Hezbollah distanced from the extremists and gave support to both the Palestinian refugees and the Lebanese army. The summit of ploys emerged in the UN resolution 1757 which tries to manipulate the case of the assassination of former premier Rafik Hariri to disarm the live, fruitful resistance. Nevertheless, Hezbollah has yet to reveal its tramp card of popular support. It has also provided a model of political stance for the Palestinian people who are pursuing the sacred dream of an independent Palestinian state with Qods as its capital.
