The Doha 2006 Flame left Esfahan, 2006 cultural capital of the Islamic world on Thursday (November 9), and headed for Tehran, its third and final stop in Iran. The flame, carried in a lantern, was flown by aeroplane to Tehran's airport. After a journey through the mountains around Tehran the flame was brought into the city for a ceremony before being carried through the streets by athletes. At times the torch was carried by rollerbladers, cyclists and even a skateboarder. Finally the flame was brought to the Iranian National Olympic Academy at the Enghelab Sports Complex where the evening celebration took place. The last torch bearer was Hossein Rezazadeh, four times world champion and two times Olympic gold medallist super heavyweightlifter. He had the honour of lighting the final flame in Iran before the torch relay moves off again for Oman.
