A man is in custody in connection with a fatal shooting outside a bar in Grain Valley early Thursday morning. Police said they were called to Whiskey Tango in the 800 block of San Kar Drive at about 3:15 a.m. Investigators told KMBC's Brenda Washington that there was a fight in the parking lot after the club had closed. "At one point, the suspect went to his vehicle and pulled out an automatic pistol, came back and shot the victim," Grain Valley Police Chief Aaron Ambrose said. Police said a man was shot three times and died. He was identified as Jesse Saldivar, 38, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Police said the shooter stayed at the scene until officers arrived. "Upon arrival, we contacted the suspect, and he openly admitted that he did, in fact, shoot this individual. He had already laid his weapon on top of another vehicle and had separated the ammunition from his weapon," Grain Valley Police Chief Aaron Ambrose said. The man was taken into custody. Charges are pending. The victim's cousin said Saldivar was in the area to visit relatives. The cousin told KMBC he doesn't know why Saldivar was shot. The cousin said they had been in the bar about an hour. While there, Saldivar started a conversation with a man who was also in the military. The cousin said that was the same man who shot Saldivar. Saldivar leaves behind a wife and four children.
