Introduction of the Euro in Malta

In May 2007, the European Commission gave its approval for the entrance of Cyprus and Malta to the Eurozone as from 01/01/2008 as both countries comply with the economic convergence criteria. Therefore, on 01/01/2008, the Maltese lira will be replaced by the euro. In order to illustrate this, the European Commission's audiovisual service has prepared an infoclip which will include: - General views of Valletta - Countdown clock on the old city gate - Exterior views of the Central Bank of Malta + exhibition on euro inside the Central Bank of Malta - Banks - Shops with dual display and the FAIR “logo” - Information campaign: on bus stop, on a bus, poster in the street - National Euro Changeover Committee: exterior views, call center, information material - Information session for citizens - Euro Starter Kit
