At Dublin Open Coffee Club we spoke to John Sheridan of Eclayer . Eclayer is a web operating system that users can install on their PCs. Once installed, it allows web-based applications to access functionality on the PC. This helps to put web based applications on a par with desktop installed ones, and facilitates a richer user experience. Security is of primary importance and John believes they have addressed it in a comprehensive way at every layer of the system. Users have full control over which sites access which resources, and equally, the websites have control over how their applications and data are mashed up. In order to encourage adoption of their Web OS platform, Eclayer have developed what they consider to be a compelling application of the technology for end users. This application allows the user to configure a USB key with data using their home PC. Then they can carry the USB with them to any PC on the internet and use the key with a web application to access resources on their home PC.
