India PM says flood 'a calamity'

More than two million people have been forced from their homes after the Kosi river burst its banks, changing course. The flooding is being described as the worst in 50 years. At least 55 people are known to have died but Indian media say the death toll is much higher. The Prime Minister pledged the federal government's support to Bihar, announcing a $228 million dollar aid package to the relief operation. Torrential rains have killed more than 1,000 people in South Asia since the monsoon began in June.
