In Historical Knesset Address British PM - Iran Must Suspend Nuclear Threat Or Face Isolation

Gordon Brown became the first British Prime Minister to address the Knesset on Monday morning, and opened his statements in Hebrew in congratulating the country on its 60th anniversary: "Mazal tov Israel, shalom alechem." He praised the achievments of the the Jewish people who against all odds have built a flourishing country and declared no other country has accomplished as much in such a short time. Britain said Brown will join the international community in its efforts to suspend Iran 's nuclear program. Brown, who is struggling with plummeting approval ratings back home, pledged the British government would fight against any attempt to boycott Israeli academics and the two countries will work together to cement their relations. Relating to the Israeli Palestinian peace negotiations Brown said he felt "a historic and lasting peace is within your grasp, " and added that he favored a two-state solution with a Palestinian state that "accepts Israel as a friend and a neighbor." 07/21/08
