IDF Investigates Shooting At Nil'in Demonstration , Barak Declares Incident Does Not Reflect Army Values

Daily soldiers are forced to deal with fierce and violent demonstrations in the village of Nil'in north west of Modiin where Palestinians and foreign demonstraters clash with security forces objecting to the construction of the West Bank security fence in the area. On Sunday the human rights group B'tselem released footage of an incident caught on camera where a soldier shot a rubber bullet at point blank range at a handcuffed Palestinian. The army has launched a probe. The incident released by B'tselem occurred on July 7 during a particularly violent demonstration, showed a handcuffed Palestinian protester detained by soldiers, and as he stood near the jeep a soldier standing near the suspect fired a rubber bullet at the Palestinian' s foot without any explanation. While the incident is isolated it proves the severe pressure and the difficult situations soldiers serving in the West Bank are forced to contend with.07/21//08
