A hunger strike by detainees at an immigration centre has entered its second week. The strike was started by a group of 13 Iraqi Kurd asylum seekers in protest at being held at the Campsfield House site near Kidlington, Oxfordshire. The group claims a former detainee from another centre committed suicide after being deported back to his former homeland. Fifty other asylum seekers from different countries have joined in the protest. One detainee has said he has been in Britain for seven years and he called for the authorities to release them from the centre. He said he would rather be dead than sent home. The UK Border agency said it is dedicated to deporting foreign nationals who have no legal rights to stay in the UK. And it said the detainees are eating snacks. The agency inisisted the situation is under control and under review.
