How To Play The Bass Guitar

Have you always wanted to play the Bass Guitar but have no idea where to begin, let alone which way round to hold it? Don't worry as we are going to show you an easy Blues riff that anyone can play with just five to ten minutes practice! Learn the bass guitar basics.

This 'Walking Blues Bass' begins with the first note of G. This is played by striking the 4th String whilst the third finger of your Left hand is on it at the 3rd Fret.
The second note, B, is played by holding the 3rd String with your second finger at the 2nd Fret.
The third note, D, is played by holding the 3rd String with the Fifth finger at the 5th Fret.
The 4th note, E, is played by holding the 2nd String with the Second finger at the 2nd Fret.
The 5th note, F, is played by holding the 2nd String with the Third finger at the 3rd Fret.

The second part of the riff is simply reversing the first part after you've played the F note. So in sequence the notes should go - G,B,D,E,F,E,D,B,G.

One important tip to remember throughout is to use the finger which corresponds with the Fret number at which the note is being played. For example, if your holding one of the strings at the 3rd Fret, make sure you use the 3rd Finger. This should help to keep the bass line fluid as your fingers will be nicely spread along the neckboard.
