How To Make BBQ Spare Ribs

How To Make BBQ Spare Ribs

BBQ Spare Ribs Recipe. Rip roarin' ribs that should be served with a generous helping of coleslaw and an ice-cold beer - the American way! Taste our BBQ Spare Ribs recipe.

Step 1:

You will need...

  • 1½ kg pork spare ribs , (cut into 4)
  • coriander , to garnish
  • for the marinade:
  • 250 g tomato ketchup
  • 25 ml chilli sauce
  • ½ tbsp cumin powder
  • 4 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 200 g honey
  • 100 ml soy sauce
  • 8 garlic cloves , minced
  • 250 ml water
  • 50 g sugar
  • 1 medium size saucepan
  • 1 large saucepan with a lid
  • 1 chopping board
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 slotted spoon
  • 2 trays
  • 1 tongs
  • 1 brush
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 barbecue, either charcoal or gas
  • 1 bottle of water for dousing any flames

Step 2:

Make the barbecue sauce

To make the sauce, add the tomato ketchup, chilli, cumin, vinegar, honey, soy sauce, garlic, sugar and the water to the medium size saucepan. Whisk together and bring to the boil. Cook for 1 minute and remove from heat.

Step 3:

Cook the spare ribs

Add the spare ribs to the large saucepan and pour in half of the barbecue sauce. Add water (enough to almost cover the ribs) and bring to the boil. Turn down the heat, cover with the lid and simmer for 2½ hours until the meat is tender.

Step 4:

Prepare the barbecue

If you plan to use a charcoal barbecue, light it 30-45 minutes before you cook and wait until the charcoal has turned white and there are no more flames. If you are using an electric barbecue, turn to high and leave for 20 minutes to heat up.

Step 5:

Check the spare ribs

Test to see if the spare ribs are done by inserting a knife into the meat (if there is little resistance, the meat is ready). Once the ribs are cooked, use the slotted spoon to remove them from the tray.

Step 6:

Barbecue the ribs

Using the tongs, dip the spare ribs into the remaining barbecue sauce and place them on the barbecue. Cook for 2 minutes. Turn the ribs over, brush with more barbecue sauce and cook for a further 2 minutes. Repeat once more then remove ribs from the barbecue.

Step 7:

Serve and garnish

Transfer the ribs to a serving dish and garnish with coriander. Serve with coleslaw or corn and an ice-cold beer - enjoy them the American way!

I'm not sure what everyone's problem with thsi recipie is... just because its not how you do it, dosent mean it's rubbish! I'm 14 and i jave it a try and thought it was lovely. Only criticism would be that 1.5kg of ribs isn't enough for 4 people!!! MAKE MORE THAN IT SAYS!!!! Honestly if you haven't tried it don't knock it!! The meat was lovely and tender and really flavoursome!!!!

i have used this recipe before and i loved it but my mother inlaw had thrown it out by accident so i had to get it again. I also find by boiling the meat in half the sauce puts more flavour into them.Maybe people didn't read the recipe well enough and just boiled them in just water instead of half the mixture with water, i had over 15 people at my bb'q and they were looking for more

This may not be a traditianal way to do BBQ ribs but I have used this recipe many times now as the sauce is tasty and boiling the ribs makes them so tender and melt in the mouth. It's worth a try!

lets boil the meat in dirty dish water just to get rid of any flavour and reduce its juicyness then throw onto some flames to make the perfect boot leather!!! mmmmmmmmm

Boiling meat is a fine way to make soup. It removes the flavor from the meat. Never add sauce to the meat until the last 10 minutes or else you will burn it. For the final word on Amazing Ribs, go to http://amazingribs.com

ICK! Why waste the time with the boil? Low and slow on the grill, make a better sauce, and oh yes, find some good wood to SMOKE THE MEAT IN!!! If you are going to do it, do it right.

Terrible. Absoultely sacrilegious to boil such beautiful meat. Throwing barbecue sauce on boiled meat and warming it up on the grill does not make barbecue. If you're going to pretend to make barbecue, at least throw in some artificial smoke flavor. You could make real BBQ on the charcoal grill by pushing all the coals to one side, putting on a type of wood for some smoke flavor and cooking the ribs (without boiling them) on the other side of the grill. Please do not call what was in the video BBQ. That's jut blasphemous.
