The U.S. Senate is expected to pass legislation approved by the U.S. House of Representatives on July 23, 2008. The bill aims to help thousands of homeowners avoid foreclosure. It also provides a lifeline to troubled mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Although the rescue measures could help as many as 400 thousand homeowners, some say more needs to be done to stop the worst US housing slump in more than two decades. VOA's Mil Arcega has more.
