On Feb. 10, 2008, HERBIE HANCOCK picked up the most coveted of all Grammys "Album of the Year" for his new CD "RIVER" featuring music by Joni Mitchell. This wasn't Herbie Hancock's firt Grammy. He won for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo in 2004 at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards for Speak Like A Child. Hancock won Best Jazz Instrumental Solo in 2002 at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards with My Ship. He and Michael Brecker & Roy Hargrove won for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group in 2002 at the 45th Annual Grammy Awards with Directions In Music. They also took home Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Individual Or Group in 1998 at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards for Gershwin's World. Plus, Hancock, Robert Sadin & Stevie Wonder won as Arranging Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocal(s) in 1998 at the 41st Annual GRAMMY Awards for St. Louis Blues. But the night was full of firsts. Six-time Grammy winner Tina Turner also joined Beyoncé for a special performance; and jazz pianist Eldar, rap-rocker Kid Rock, jazz saxophonist Dave Koz and jazz/pop singer Keely Smith also performed on the 50th Annual Grammy Awards telecast.
