Helen Mirren gets Oscar nod

Some of Britain's best known actors have been nominated for the top awards at this year's Oscars.Dame Helen Mirren leads the way in her nomination for the Best Actress award, having already won a Golden Globe for her regal role in The Queen.Hot on her heels are fellow British stars Dame Judi Dench for her role in Notes On A Scandal and Kate Winslet for her part in Little Children.Peter O'Toole is the only Brit in the Best Actor category, picking up his eighth nomination for his depiction of an ageing actor in Venus. He faces strong competition from Forest Whittaker in the Last King of Scotland and Will Smith. The Queen seemed unstoppable as it also picked up a nomination for Best Film along with Best director for Stephen Frears. But it faces strong competition from Martin Scorsese's The Departed, the musical Dreamgirls and the comedy Little Miss Sunshine.© Independent Television News Limited 2007.
