The father of the late Australian actor Heath Ledger has expressed bittersweet feelings following his son's posthumous Golden Globe award. Kim Ledger watched the ceremony from the family's hometown in Perth and could not hide his feelings as actress Demi Moore announced Heath Ledger as the winner for the Best Supporting Actor. He told local media he felt "elated, fantastic, absolutely fantastic, bittersweet but feeling great". Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental prescription drug overdose last year, was named best supporting actor for playing the villain Joker in the Batman movie The Dark Knight. Film Director Christopher Nolan accepted the award for Ledger. "I think for any of us lucky enough to enjoy his performances he will be eternally missed." A standing ovation from the Golden Globe guests was a show of Ledger's recognition among his peers. His father said: "With his peers standing like they are, that really goes to the heart, you know." The award is likely be given to Heath's young daughter Matilda, Ledger's mother Sally Bell said in an interview. The Dark Knight was released several months after Ledger's death in January 2008. The movie has garnered Ledger, 28, not only the Golden Globe but also a Critics Choice Award, a Screen Actors Guild nomination, and he is widely expected to receive an Oscar nomination next week.
