Medicine regulators and pharmaceutical companies are taking action to prevent a repeat of the North London drug trial disaster which almost killed six volunteers. An advisory body will be set up in the New Year to assess clinical studies of high-risk substances, and the pharmaceutical industry's own guidelines on the conduct of trials are also being revised. The changes are a response to a report on the trial by a government-appointed team of scientists. The men who took part suffered pain, vomiting and organ failure.
