HEALTH: Copper used in fight against MRSA

A new weapon is being tested in the battle against hospital superbugs. It's thought that copper could dramatically reduce the transmission of bugs like MRSA. It comes as doctors at an Ipswich hospital are being criticised, for failing to spot the warning signs of MRSA in a newborn baby. Luke Day is thought to be the youngest victim of MRSA in Britain. He died just 36 hours after being born. Recent tests have shown that most bugs that can live for days on stainless steel fittings, will die within hours on copper.
