HEALTH: Clostridium Difficile hospital outbreak: report condemns hospital chiefs

The son of one of the patients killed in an outbreak of the clostridium difficile bug (or C Difficile) at Stoke Mandeville hospital in 2005 has revealed that 'the night before she died, she was lying in her own excrement.' Now a damning report into the spread of the deadly bug has accused health chiefs of putting NHS targets above patient safety. The Health Commission said the infection which killed 33 people could have been contained if staff had followed basic hygiene precautions - but nurses were too rushed even to wash their hands.
