HEALTH: Bernard Matthews bird flu outbreak: Firm receives six hundred thousand pounds compensation

Bernard Matthews firm has received six hundred thousand pounds in compensation after the outbreak of bird flu on its suffolk premises even though an official report found it had failed to maintain its biosecurity. MPs have reacted angrily over the size of the payout. The leader of the Commons Jack Straw said he felt 'uncomfortable'. But despite an intensive investigation, the DEFRA report could not pinpoint how the infection occurred.
