On 27/06/2006, the European Commission will launch a public consultation on the donation and transplantation of organs. This consultationÂ’s goal is to identify the main difficulties to be faced and to consider eventual responses at a European level. Over the last few years, organ donations have continually increased but organ trafficking and the lack of European harmonisation on quality and security in this field means there are still many problematic areas. To illustrate the launch of the public consultation, the European CommissionÂ’s Audiovisual Service has prepared an infoclip which will include footage covering the following subjects: - Medical Agency which manages a list of organ donors and the distribution of available organs, St.Denis-La-Plaine, France - Footage covering the steps taken from the removal of a kidney from a donor to the actual transplantation, Kremlin-Bicêtre Hopsital, Paris, France - Kidney transplantation, Henri Mondor Hospital, Créteil, France.
