Hundreds of guns have been seized in one of the biggest weapons seizures in the history of the Metropolitan Police. Officers from Scotland Yard's Operation Trident raided three addresses in Dartford, Kent, as part of an 18-month investigation into shootings in north London. The weapons seized range from pump action shotguns to automatic pistols. Operation Trident is the Metropolitan Police's operation to investigate so-called black-on-black gun crime. A 55-year-old man was arrested during the raids and is being questioned by police. Detective Chief Superintendent Kevin Davis said: 'This operation has resulted in hundreds of guns being taken out of circulation and has potentially prevented a number of serious injuries or even deaths occurring on the streets of London. 'It is impossible to overestimate the misery and fear these weapons could have brought if they had got into the hands of criminals. 'Today's seizure demonstrates Trident's determination not only to target the gunmen but also tackle those who are responsible for supplying guns in the first place.' Searches are expected to continue throughout the day. Scotland Yard confirmed that US law enforcement agencies are carrying out a linked operation in New Jersey.
