Glitter 'on his way to UK'
Convicted child molester Gary Glitter is thought to be heading for Britain after being released from a Vietnamese prison. The former glam rock singer, real name Paul Gadd, left Thu Duc prison at 11.30am local time (5.30am British time) and is being driven to Ho Chi Minh City Airport. The 90-mile journey is expected to take between three and four hours. Glitter, 64, was jailed for three years in March 2006 after he was convicted of abusing two girls aged 10 and 11, but his sentence was reduced for good behaviour. His lawyer Le Thanh Kinh said Glitter wanted to return to the UK, had a ticket to London and was eagerly anticipating his release. If he does fly back to Britain, Glitter will be met at the airport by police and required to sign the sex offenders' register. He will be subject to monitoring and will have to tell the police where he plans to live and if he plans to go abroad. He could also face an order prohibiting him from going near children or using the internet. Mr Kinh said: "He has served his sentence and the authorities in Vietnam will deport him. He does not have any sentence to serve in London. If he wants to stop wherever he wants to he can do that." Glitter said last week he wanted to come back to the UK to take advantage of the health service. He has also spoken of plans to record a new album or write his autobiography. He was jailed in Britain in 1999 after being caught with thousands of child pornography images on his computer. He later moved to Spain, Cuba and then Cambodia - from where he was deported in 2003 over alleged sex offences.
