Arriving for an intensive three day visit to the region US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that meaningful steps must be taken to improve the lives of the Palestinian people. Foreign Minister Livni declared that compromises will have to be made.Israel meanwhile is considering the removal of some checkpoints and dirt obstructions in the West Bank. Rice also conducted trilateral talks with Defense MInister Ehud Barak and Palestinian Prime MInister Salam Fayad , and after meeting with officials in Jerusalem and , Ramallah will travel to Amman to discuss issues with King Abdullah of Jordan. Rice's visit is intended to ensure progress is made in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process before U.S. President George Bush visits the region in May.03/30/08
