Germany through, Austria out

Captain Michael Ballack scored with a free kick, ensuring Germany a place as Group B runners-up behind Croatia. Austria, who needed a win to stand any chance of going through, still caused Germany some worries. The atmosphere on the side of the pitch was also tense, as the German and Austrian coaches were sent to the stands by the referee after a dispute with the fourth official.
