Heavy rainfall have flooded streets and low-lying houses in Germany's Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. Emergency response teams were dispatched to rescue some residents and assist in the sandbagging of homes and shops. The towns hardest hit were Lonau and Wulften. In Lonau, a stream broke through a bridge, flooding many of the streets, and causing people to reroute. The waters were so high in parts that a family of six had to be rescued and taken to a shelter. Banks also burst along the River Sieg in Eitorf. Residents and fire-fighters responded by sandbagging homes and store fronts.
