German investors in Albania: A Bavarian recipe for success

'We carry on when others stop'... With this slogan, Peter Pfeifer, from Weilheim near Munich began investming in Albania. He first went there in 1999 with aid for Kosovo refugee children. Now he has established his factory making nebulisers. The company has an annual turnover of some 160,000 euros, not much by German standards, but it is considered a flagship in Albania, and the president himself often takes foreign visitors there. Albatec is proof that quality contract production is possible in Albania. A truck takes about 12 hours to travel between Elbasan in Albania and the German plant in Weilheim, which makes last-minute deliveries to southern Germany possible. Report by Karl Harenbrock.
