Georgia: troops, aid workers clash

The event occurred as Georgian officials and Russian soldiers negotiated the handback of the strategic town abandoned by Georgia's army three days previously. Russia insisted it had not occupied Gori directly but there's been a large Russian military presence in the surrounding area. Moscow has been acting it says, in support of separatists in the breakaway region of South Ossetia -- 30km (18 miles) to the north of Gori -- in a war which flared last week.
