Gas tax hike

A Boston-area lawmaker wants to get rid of all Mass Pike tolls, in exchange for a 6 cents per gallon gas tax hike...and the governor says he's "willing to consider" it. 22news reporter julie tremmel found out how local drivers feel about paying more for gas. just when gas prices have fallen enough for you to really notice the difference..some beacon hill lawmakers are looking to raise the states' gas tax by 6 cents. right now gas averages 2-0-2 per gallon in the pioneer valley. but if natick democrat david linsky's bill passes...all mass pike tolls would be wiped out... and that same gallon would cost you 2.08...the additional 6 cents would go directly to the commonwealth. well, it's definitely not a good time for it, and how long is the big dig gonna go on? although the proceeds of any gas tax wouldn't be specifically earmarked for any particular project, one local state rep's concerned it could end up in the ground in boston. there would have to be some serious assurances there that that money would not come from western mass to pay for the big dig if the increase is eventually approved massachusetts drivres can expect to pay 29.5 cents per gallon for gas tax, which is still below the national average of 30 cents a gallon i don't think so it's right for the moment to raise it. i understand that there are road and bridges that need to be made so i would be ok with that this 6 cent per gallon gas tax hike is just a proposal. gov. deval patrick says discussion on the matter most likely will come gov. deval patrick says discussion on the matter most likely will come too late to prevent hikes in mass pike and boston bridge and tunnel tolls. in west springfield, julie tremmel, 22news.
