Future of the European Union

"What do Europeans expect from Europe at the start of the 21st century". A Convention of the Future of Europe was set up to reply to this question. The work of the Convention will be established in three phases. After the phase of listening to the people, two steps will be taken in parallel: respond to the six questions contained in the Laeken declaration and discuss the different directions already underway on the future of Europe. Also under study is the organisation of the institutions as a result of the Nice Treaty, federal European projects, the modernisation of the Community method, solutions to the "federation of Nation States", etc. The third work phase should allow the development of recommendations whose objective is to simplify the Treaties to make them understandable by everyone and, possibly, open the way to developing a European constitution.
