FROM THE NET TO THE PLATE: STRENGTHENING FISHERIES CONTROL IN EUROPE

On 14 November 2008 the European Commission agreed on a proposal for a regulation setting out a new approach to controlling the EUÂ’s fisheriesÂ’ activities. The aim of the reform is to reverse the current tendency within the sector of fishermen not complying with the rules of the Common Fisheries Policy. This failure to comply with the law is a serious problem, because these rules have been put in place to guarantee the sustainable use of our fisheries.
