FRANCE: Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson in Paris to promote latest film, "Stranger Than Fiction"

In a tour to promote their new movie, "Stranger Than Fiction," Academy Award winners Emma Thompson and Dustin Hoffman spoke at a press conference on Tuesday (October 17) morning at Hotel George V in Paris. Written by Zach Helm, the main story of the film is about the life of an IRS (Internal Revenue Service) agent has interrupted by the voice of a personal narrator who knows all his thoughts, movements and feelings including the time and the place of his death. A funny comedy happens between the lines of the story written by the novelist Key Eiffel (Emma Thompson) and the life of novel's main character who is really alive Harold Crick (Will Ferrell). The matter of the story that Eiffel need to complete her novel, and to accomplish this mission she has to kill Crick who in his turn hears what she has in her mind and understands that he must find a way to let her change the end of the novel which supposed to be his own end. "What is so wonderful about this story is about how the fact that this man is finding out through the author of his life how, how he is in fact going to live and she in turn who is deeply depressive and kills all her characters as it were vicarious suicides, her own suicides, repeated in her mind over and over again because she can't quite manage it herself, she finds out how to live as well and in her case it's to do with accepting imperfection. It's very interesting, and it's very funny and it's very dark and it's the best script I've read in 10 years" said Emma Thompson when she was describing for reporters how much interesting the script of the movie. Directed by a German director, Marc Forester, Dustin Hoffman answered question about the work of acting in general and how actors collaborate and do their job with Film Makers, he said: "There is two things that we know as actors, film actors, that makes us different from other artists: We are not in control of our performance, we do take after take after take; the director says that he wants this color that color this color and then he goes into the cutting room and he decides which take which color, then ultimately what is your performance is going to be". "Stranger Than Fiction," the Columbia Pictures release starring Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman, Queen Latifah and Emma Thompson, opens in France on January 10, 2007.
