FOOTBALL: Chelsea goalkeeper receives surgery on fractured skull after clash in Chelsea v Reading match

Doctors have been forced to operate on Chelsea's goalkeeper, Petr Cech, for a depressed fracture of the skull. It follows a clash with Reading's Stephen Hunt during yesterday's match at the Madjeski stadium. The Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, said he thought his player was lucky to be alive. Later in the same game, Chelsea's second keeper, Carlo Cudicini, was also knocked unconscious.
