Formula One duo Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone have made a takeover bid for second division Queens Park Rangers. Rangers said on their official Web site (www.qpr.co.uk) on Saturday (September 1) they were delighted with the offer from Briatore, the Renault team boss, and Formula One supremo Ecclestone. Briatore will be invited to join the board with Gianni Paladini remaining as chairman. "Bernie and I were delighted to receive a recommendation from the board of QPR for our bid for the club and we look forward to working alongside Gianni Paladini and his team," said Briatore. "Gianni, Bernie and I are determined to see the club return to the Premiership as soon as possible." Paladini said the offer provided much-needed investment to move the club forward "which we are sure will be translated into positive results on the pitch". The west London club lost 3-0 at home to Southampton on Saturday and remain in the bottom three of the division with only one point from three games. The club were rocked last weekend by the death in a car accident of 18-year-old striker Ray Jones and said there would be no further statement on the takeover as they were focused this week on celebrating Jones's life.
