Ferguson 'relishing' life without Cristiano Ronaldo

Alex Ferguson says he is relishing the challenge of watching Manchester United adapt to life without Cristiano Ronaldo this season. United begin their Premier League title defence at home to Birmingham City on Sunday and Ferguson insists there will be no hangover from their Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in May. He says he is confident he still has the talent to prove selling Portuguese forward Ronaldo was not a mistake. He told reporters: "Probably most of the players expected Cristiano Ronaldo to leave at some point so it wasn't a big shock to them. The problem now is how we progress as a team, in a different shape, different way to when he was here. It's something I'm looking forward to. "He was the best player in the world; he is the best player in the world, but he was part of a good team. Of course an individual can make a difference but you can't take away the glory of the team's performance last year, it was fantastic. "Over 66 matches it was amazing what they did. So Cristiano played a fantastic part. We won't forget it but we move on, as we always do."
