Sir Alex Ferguson is upbeat about Manchester United's chances of signing West Ham United striker Carlos Tevez on a long-term contract after Argentina's Copa America campaign concludes.A deal, virtually identical to the one which saw Tevez's compatriot Javier Mascherano leave Upton Park for Liverpool during the January transfer window, is in place with the Premiership champions. All that Tevez will have to do to seal his move, which could be worth around £30 million, is to pass a medical and actually sign. The problem is to whom the Red Devils actually pay the cash, with the Premier League continuing to insist West Ham should profit as they hold Tevez's registration.Businessman Kia Joorabchian counters this, insisting that he still owns a controlling right in the former Corinthians star, who controversially scored seven goals in his final ten games for the Hammers to preserve their top-flight status. And Ferguson said: "I am sure the outcome will be that we will be taking him, with complete clarity in the deal and no suspicions or anything dodgy. There is no way we will be involved in anything underhand."He added: "Unless the Premier League are holding something back that they have not told us about, I don't really know what the problem is because we are following the procedure of Javier Mascherano."Tevez himself, speaking after Argentina's Copa America win over Peru, said: "There is something arranged. I have already talked to them (Man Utd) but now I want to focus only on the national team."© Independent Television News Limited 2007. All rights reserved.
