EPA Holds Up Coal Mining Permits In West Virginia Soundbites from Bryan Brown of the Federation for American Coal, Energy and Security (FACES of Coal)

On September 30, 2009, the EPA announced its decision to hold up 79 mining permits in Appalachia, including 23 in West Virginia. The EPA is subjecting the surface mining permits to an "enhanced review" process. However, the criteria and schedule for the "enhanced review" process have not been made available to the public or the applicants.
