The Berlaymont building, headquarters of the European Commission, is the biggest trigeneration system (electricity, cool water and hot water) building in the EU. It is a model of energy efficiency and adheres to all international and European guidelines. More than two thousand Commission staff work in this building which was renovated by Berlaymont 2000, using materials and fittings that met strict criteria for energy consumption and environmental protection. The Berlaymont was built in the 1960s and was occupied until 1991, when Commission staff were moved out because of the presence of asbestos. To mark the first EU Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), the Audiovisual Service of the European Commission has prepared an info-clip which will include: - Temperature and lighting controls - Building Management System office - Ice- storage temperature control system - Water collectors - Gas-fired cogeneration station - Boiler room - Weather station and chimneys - Glass louver panels
