Driver's sentence a 'joke'

Driver's sentence a 'joke'

The family of a nine-year-old girl killed by a hit and run driver has described the sentenced given to her killer as a 'joke'. Ellese Gore had been playing with her twin sister Becky just before she died in Greater Manchester last October. As she crossed the road she was hit by 18-year-old Mouishen Ahmed who was travelling at 60mph in a 30mph zone. He did not stop but ten days later handed himself into a police station. He could have been jailed for up to 14 years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident. But he could walk free in just seven weeks after Justice William Morris described little Ellese's death as a 'low-scale crime'. Ellese's mother Tracey said: 'I don't know why they didn't just kick me in the teeth.' She added; 'He should have been made an example of. He stole my daughter's life and he has not paid for it.' Ellese's grandmother Linda gore said: 'The whole family has been devastated by this sentence. 'Although no sentence could ever bring Ellese back, this just feels like an insult and a joke.'
