
U.S. stocks fell well over 1 percent, with the Dow near a 2 percent decline, as fears mount about the future of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and as oil climbed to a new record. Crude oil rallied above $147 a barrel for the first time led by fear of a disruption to Iranian oil supplies.
