FOR MORE DETROIT AUTO SHOW COVERAGE: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/autoshows/detroit/2009/dodgecircuitevnews.html Chrysler's all-electric sports car, the Dodge Circuit EV, spices up the automaker's electric vehicle lineup at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. It's the only nod to performance among a quartet of electric vehicles that the automaker is unveiling on Sunday. "The Dodge Circuit EV offers an extremely fun-to-drive, expressive sports car without fuel consumption and with virtually no impact on the environment," said Ralph Gilles, Chrysler vice president of design, in a statement. Chrysler bragged that the Circuit EV sprints from zero to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds and has a top speed of more than 120 mph. It uses three powertrain components: a 268-horsepower electric motor, an advanced lithium-ion battery system and a controller that manages energy flow. Dodge said the Circuit EV has a driving range of 150-200 miles between charges. It plugs into a standard 110-volt household outlet. Earlier, Chrysler said that the electric two-seater is based on the Lotus Europa. The Europa is a derivative of the Lotus Elise platform, which serves loosely as the foundation for the electric Tesla Roadster. Lotus builds the Tesla Roadster under contract with Tesla Motors. The Dodge Circuit gets a new "Tangoreen" exterior color with large "EV" graphics. The cockpit features a leather-covered instrument cluster with two primary analog-face gauges. A digital display provides information about the electric-drive system.
