Filipinos are shaking their groove things to a new dance called the Papaya. The fad follows in the footsteps of the Macarena, and is being embraced across the nation. The simple 'clap, clap, shuffle, shuffle, point your fingers in the air' began as a gimmick on a television game show.Whenever a contestant on Game Ka Na (Are You Game?) gets the correct answer in an elimination round, the whole audience stands up and dances to the Papaya. The show's host, Edu Manzano, said the dance really appeals to people."This song just kind of tickles people in the right way. It brings a glint in your eyes, a smile to your face, and a kind of sway to your hips," he said. The dance has become so contagious that a supermarket chain has made it part of its staff's daily regimen, and one resort hotel has staff perform it when welcoming guests.© Independent Television News Limited 2008.
