An Review published by watchdogs for the Crown Prosecution Service and the Police has criticised the fact that very few rape cases are taken to court. The Report, which studied rapes reported in 2005, was produced by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC) and Her Majesty's Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate (HMCPSI). It found nearly a third of cases were dropped when in fact they should have been pursued. Few women who claim they have been raped are successful in the courts.
