The High Court has heard that the conviction of Barry George, the man found guilty of the murder of television presenter Jill Dando, was dependent on a tiny speck of residue from a discharged gun. The single particle of Firearms Discharge Residue, or FDR, was found in the pocket of a coat owned by Mr George one year after the shooting. The court heard from a witness for the defence that current Forensic Science Service policy 'precludes placing evidential significance to finding a single particle of FDR'.
