CRIME: Ellie Lawrenson killed by pit bull terrier: jury hears evidence given by grandmother on trial

Jacqueline Simpson has appeared in court charged with manslaughter after her 5-year-old granddaughter was mauled by a dangerous dog. Ellie Lawrenson died after being attacked by the family's pit bull terrier in the early hours of New Year's Day 2007. The court has been read interviews given by Ellie's grandmother to the police. She told the police that she was "wrestling all over the room" to try and drag the dog off Ellie. She also told the interviewing officer she hadn't ever wanted the pitbull terrier.
