CRIME: Domestic violence: 'panic rooms' installed in London homes

'Panic Rooms' are being installed in houses across London, not to protect people from intruders but to give victims of domestic violence somewhere to hide. Forty have been installed in Barnet alone, paid for by the council, which allow victims to stay in their own homes rather than having to move out and possibly end up on the streets. Plans have been unveiled to fund many more of the special rooms.
