"I'm a person whose soul has suffered third degree burns over 100% of it. How do you heal the soul that is burnt so badly? You do it by getting involved in helping others," says Frank James, co-author of The Journey Is More Than the Destination. Many grieving parents find it impossible to move forward. They cling to the past, looking behind them. Moving on with their lives hurts too much. Be assured that there are proactive steps you can take to lead you through the grieving process: Make contributions and tributes to your lost child: scholarships, memory gardens, scrapbooks, gift baskets for your child's friends, benefit walks Rearrange the dinner table. Don't sit in the chair you used to sit in. Have each family member sit in a different chair, so you don't have to look at the empty chair. Do the same thing when riding in the car. Physical activity helps lessen the grief. Whether you walk, swim, or just window shop in the mall, any kind of activity is helpful. Get involved in helping other people. It doesn't matter what the cause or venue, helping others heals. Take part in grief organization meetings. The people there have experienced what you are going through. They are there to help and support you. Following these proactive tips will guide you through your grieving journey, bringing you to a destination of peace again.
