On 08/10/2008, Meglena Kuneva, Member of the EC in charge of Consumer Protection, will present her proposal for a Consumer Contract Rights Directive. This new legislative proposal, initiated by Meglena Kuneva, takes into account the opening up of the market place, particularly for on-line shopping which increases the choice of goods available, boosts competition and consumer confidence. It will simplify existing legislation (reducing four existing directives into one) and will put in place a single set of core EU consumer rights for all consumer contracts. Its aim is to simplify cross-border transactions for companies and to clearly explain to consumers their rights when they buy anywhere in the EU. To illustrate this, the European Commission's audiovisual service has produced an infoclip which will include the following images: - consumer purchasing goods on-line, via the Amazon website which specialises in on-line sales of books, CDs, DVDs, games and computer products, - Amazon distribution point, Leipzig, Germany.
