Constraints and the 70's punk movement

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey shares his lessons and advice For someone whose service drives millions to communicate in 140-characters, it's probably not a surprise that limitations are a good thing. "It's important to constrain the process," said Twitter CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey, in this interview in which he shares his lessons as an entrepreneur. "In my dispatch days back in 1999,2000 we built something cool. We loved it. We hired a CEO who didn't match our personalities and vision." In the end, the company grew too quickly and scattered the focus of the company. The singular focus works out, he said. Another lesson Jack learned comes from his youth in the 70s. Actually, Jack was just a toddler then. But he has learned from being an observer of those days. During the "punk movement of the 70s," he said, "people would get out on the streets. They'd be learning in front of people. They'd get out on the street. And, it's the first time on the guitar, and they'd be learning." Then they just "edit, edit, edit," he added. Essentially, what he means is to just do it and iterate. "You're going to make a lot of mistakes," he said. "The important thing is that you make decisions and keep moving forward."
